Rachel's Friends is a breast cancer advocacy group dedicated to Rachel Carson, an ecologist, biologist and writer who was one of the early pioneers in the environmental community. Her 1962 book Silent Spring raised awareness about the dangers of pesticides on our ecosystem and helped lead to restrictions on pesticides such as DDT. Before she died of cancer in 1964, Carson testified before Congress, calling for new policies to protect human health and the environment.
